Mathdays – Tackle Math with New Enthusiasm
To welcome in a new year and help busy homeschool moms and dads gear up for another semester of teaching, I’ve decided to start a new series on my blog. The theme aligns with Classical Conversations’ *free* 2013 Parent Practicums, and it’s also one of the scariest topics for homeschoolers whose children are approaching high school. I’m talking, of course, about math.
So, for the next few months, every Monday (“Mathday“), 1 Smart Mama will feature a brief but challenging equation, comment, quote, or link designed to help you and your family think in the language of math—(brief, so you can read it on the go or save it for a later lesson; challenging, so you begin to recognize that you are capable of great things!).
I hope you enjoy!
Mathday, January 7 || Tackle Math with New Enthusiasm

This week, check out this link: The science [and mathematics] of NFL Football.
In a series of short video clips, learn how the Pythagorean Theorem is used by linebackers to play effective defense. Study torque and center of mass as you learn how to tackle. Other video clips cover Newton’s Three Laws of Motion, vectors, geometric shapes, velocity and acceleration, parabolas, and even nutrition. Perfect for the sports lovers in your family!
